The bike being prepared...
Here we have the bike that I will be using for this trip in the garage being prepared with SatNav mount, video camera mount, Metal Mule pannier frames, Alt-Rider engine bash plate and Alt-Rider engine bars in anticipation of a fall or two!
It is a 2012 BMW R1200GS Triple Black edition. I chose this bike because I was advised that my F800GS with lowered suspension and the well known weak wheel rims was not totally suitable for the terrain we would be riding. I must admit, the seat was not good for long days in the saddle and the 1200 has a Sargent low seat fitted which so far seems very comfortable, though still taller than my legs would like.
Further to all the farkles I will be adding to the bike, it will also be going to a BMW main dealer for new front wheel bearings, front fork seals and rear hub bearings too. What I don't want to happen is for one of these common wear items to prematurely end my trip. Then two weeks before we set off the bike will go back into the dealer for a full service, new tyres and thorough expedition check over.

Off-road training...
Just had a days one to one off-road training with Kevin Hammond of Adventure Bike Training in Norfolk.
The aim of the day was to practise deep sand/gravel riding, the dreaded ruts and the nerve racking river crossings plus what ever else he thinks is necessary.
Oh, and I got to practise lifting the bike a few times too!
Apart from a sprained thumb, all went well ;)
